Convert US Dollars to Euros instantly, using today's mid-market rate
Type in any dollar amount and this calculator shows you exactly how many euros you'd get, based on the live mid-market USD to EUR exchange rate published by the European Central Bank (ECB). Handy for travel budgeting, online shopping from European stores, sending money abroad, or just checking how far your dollars stretch today.
How to use the calculator
- Make sure the From currency is set to USD and the To currency is set to EUR.
- Type your dollar amount into the input box.
- The euro equivalent appears instantly — no button to press.
- Want the reverse? Swap the currencies to convert euros back to dollars.
USD to EUR worked example
Say you are travelling to Spain and you have $350 to exchange. Here is what the calculation looks like:
- The ECB mid-market rate today is, for example, 0.9210 (meaning 1 USD = 0.9210 EUR).
- Multiply: 350 × 0.9210 = 322.35
- Result: $350 = €322.35
The tool does this multiplication the moment you type, so you never have to work it out by hand.
How the conversion is calculated
The formula is straightforward:
EUR amount = USD amount × USD/EUR rateThe USD/EUR rate is the number of euros one US dollar buys right now. If the rate is 0.9210, every dollar is worth about 92 euro cents.
| USD | Rate (example) | EUR |
|---|---|---|
| $1 | 0.9210 | €0.92 |
| $10 | 0.9210 | €9.21 |
| $50 | 0.9210 | €46.05 |
| $100 | 0.9210 | €92.10 |
| $500 | 0.9210 | €460.50 |
| $1,000 | 0.9210 | €921.00 |
These figures use an illustrative rate. The calculator above always uses the current ECB reference rate.
Live USD/EUR reference rate table
The ECB publishes a mid-market reference rate for USD/EUR each working day, usually around 16:00 CET. The figures below are fetched from that public rate feed and recalculated in your browser — your amounts are never uploaded anywhere.
| US Dollars (USD) | Euros (EUR) — live ECB rate |
|---|---|
| $1 | Calculated live above |
| $10 | Calculated live above |
| $100 | Calculated live above |
| $1,000 | Calculated live above |
| $5,000 | Calculated live above |
Important: this is the mid-market (interbank) rate — the fairest baseline. Banks, PayPal, and airport exchange desks typically add a margin of 1–5% on top, so the euros you actually receive will be slightly less than the mid-market figure.
Other ways people search for this conversion
You might be searching for any of these — they all point to the same calculation:
- "1 USD in EUR" — single-unit conversion; just enter 1 in the calculator.
- "dollar to euro exchange rate today" — the live rate shown at the top of the tool is today's ECB rate.
- "US dollar euro conversion" — same thing; USD and US dollar mean the same currency (ISO code: USD).
- "how many euros is $X" — type X into the calculator for an instant answer.
- "EUR/USD vs USD/EUR" — EUR/USD tells you how many dollars one euro buys; USD/EUR (used here) tells you how many euros one dollar buys. They are reciprocals of each other.
Quick tips and common mistakes
- Mid-market ≠ what you get at the bank. Always add a 2–4% buffer when planning travel spending — the real exchange desk rate will be slightly worse.
- Check the date. The ECB updates rates on working days only. On weekends and public holidays, the displayed rate is the most recent available — it will say when it was last updated.
- Big transfers? Shop around. For amounts over $1,000, specialist transfer services (like Wise or Revolut) often offer rates closer to mid-market than traditional banks.
- Don't confuse EUR/USD with USD/EUR. Financial news quotes EUR/USD (e.g., 1.0858). To get USD/EUR, divide 1 by that number: 1 ÷ 1.0858 ≈ 0.9210.
- Round carefully. Currency conversions carry two decimal places (euro cents). Rounding too early in a multi-step calculation can produce small errors — let the tool handle the maths.
Everything is calculated directly in your browser. Only the ECB's public exchange rate is fetched from the network — no personal data, no amounts, nothing private ever leaves your device.
